Skating
There are several outdoor ice rinks in the Ottawa area to enjoy, here are a few:
- Icelynd Skating Trails -Icelynd (or “Icelyn” meaning “Ruler of the Winter storm”) is over 2 kilometres of exquisite trails of natural ice surface. The paths wind their way through almost 100 acres of beautiful natural woods. Click here for more details
- RiverOak Skating Trail – Skate through the 3km frozen pathway that winds through old-growth apple orchards, and meadows. With a winding maze of skating trails, outdoor rinks, and other activities on site, RiverOak Estates is fun for the whole family! Click here for more details
- Rideau Hall Historic Skating Rink – Visitors can enjoy a unique skating experience on Rideau Hall’s historic skating rink, which was first installed in the time of Lord Dufferin, governor general from 1872 to 1878. Click here for more details

Downhill skiing
There are several ski resorts near Ottawa. Click on the name of the hill to visit their website for ski conditions.
- Camp Fortune in Chelsea, Que.
- Ski Vorlage in Wakefield, Que.
- Sommet Edelweiss in Wakefield, Que.
- Mont Cascades Ski Resort in Cantley, Que.
- Mount Pakenham is located 45 minutes west of downtown in Pakenham, Ont.
- Calabogie Peaks Ski Resort in Calabogie, Ont.
- Mont Ste-Marie in Lac-Sainte-Marie, Que.
Cross-country skiing
You can go cross-country skiing on several trails in Ottawa this winter, weather permitting. Click on the name to visit their website.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is available in Gatineau Park, but a winter pass (seasonal or daily) is required to access the trails.
