Developed in the later 1960s and 70s, Glen Cairn is in South Kanata just South of Hazeldean Road. It was one of the original neighborhoods of the City of Kanata, before amalgamation into the City of Ottawa in 2001. Glen Cairn offers many styles of homes including smaller homes, semi-detached and detached bungalows and 2 storey homes. Many of the homes have larger lots and mature trees. Elementary schools serving the neighborhood include the Glen Cairn Public School, John Young Elementary School, St. Martin de Porres School and the AY Jackson Secondary School and Holy Trinity Catholic High school. The community offers a variety of amenities close by including the Glen Cairn Outdoor Pool, Glen Cairn Tennis Club, Hazeldean branch of the Ottawa Public Library, and the Jack Charron Arena. Residents can readily access the Hazeldean Mall on Hazeldean Road and a variety of shops on Hazeldean Road.
