Don’t Forget to do Your Property Check-Up Before the End of Summer
While the warm weather is here and before the summer ends, it is a good idea to walk your property and note any maintenance issues that need attention. Even garage doors that are starting to rust, a front door that needs a fresh coat of paint or a sticky door handle, these are good items to make note of and address weather permitting. Noting items that will add to curb appeal are also important, especially if you are thinking of selling your home this fall or winter. The same applies to the inside of your home including attics and crawl spaces, make a to do list for each room. Remember catching items that need attention sooner than later can save you both time and money!
Exterior Maintenance
Roof: Check for missing, damaged, or loose shingles. Inspect flashing around chimneys, skylights, and vents.
Gutter and Downspout Cleaning: Remove leaves, sticks, and debris from gutters. Ensure downspouts direct water away from the foundation. Add extensions if needed.
Foundation/Exterior Walls: Look for signs of damage or decay, such as cracks or peeling paint. Check for signs of pests or termites.
Windows and Doors: Inspect seals and caulking for gaps or wear and tear. Ensure weather stripping is intact and functioning.
Fences, Decks and Patios: Check for loose boards or nails, fence posts, sunken interlock/patio stones. Clean and seal wood surfaces to protect against moisture.
Siding and Trim: Clean any mildew or dirt. Repair or replace any damaged sections.
Trees and Shrubs: Trim branches that are overhanging or too close to the house. Remove any dead or diseased limbs.
Lighting: check outdoor lights and replace bulbs
Walkways, steps and railings: – check for safety
