When Looking for a Specific Property
When looking for a specific property and your next home, there are many factors to consider, i.e. location, style of home, and more:
Proximity to specific schools – are specific schools or school programs important to you.
Close to work – if your schedule is tight, obligations to pick up children or attend after school programs, the less time on the road is better.
Special interests – access to other activities, i.e. swimming, biking, clubs, galleries
Land – the topography of the lot, larger, treed, near water or with top views.
Be close to family – time is important to us all, if family members are babysitting, or if care is needed for older family members.
Apartment downtown, certain building, sometimes a report from friends or family recommendations on style and size may assist
Car, Bus & Light rail service – time it takes to get to work, shops and other activities
We all know finding the home that meets all these factors and in your budget can be difficult, especially in a reasonable timeframe. Ask yourself what value do you place on each factor, and rate them from top to bottom. Use your top 3 to help you prioritize the neighborhoods and styles of homes/condos that will meet your needs. Each time you look at a home, use this criteria to help you consider each home.
Remember you never know when your dream home will come on the market. It could be tomorrow or take a while, so start early and be prepared. Know your financing and get your own home ready for sale (any needed repairs, improvements, etc.). If you can have a back up plan in case closing dates don’t line up, this may allow you to look at more opportunities and take some of the pressure off.
