Neighbourhood matters whether buying new or resale
To buy new or resale, often an ongoing debate by many potential purchasers.
There is more to consider than the age of the home and required updates. The neighborhood of the home can affect your every day life whether that be how far of a walk or car ride to the grocery store or your enjoyment in your own backyard. If you are thinking of purchasing a home, consider these points of a neighborhood.
- Size of lot, how important is this to you? If you’re looking for more outdoor space lots are usually bigger in more mature neighborhoods. Remember lot value appreciates and houses depreciate unless they are updated and maintained.
- Are you a gardener/landscaper? Trees are established and more landscaping is typically done in more mature neighborhoods
- Would you like more room/privacy around your home? Consider the density of homes in the neighborhood. Does the home back onto parkland, single homes, townhomes, condos, a street or open space (check the zoning, remember zoning can change).
- Do you frequent parks, play structures, sporting amenities? Are they close by?
- If you have children, what types of schooling and programs are you looking for? Are they offered in specific neighborhoods? Check the school locator tools by the different school boards and the types of programs offered
- Do you use public transit in Ottawa? Is it established or coming in the neighborhoods you are interested in?
