Bridge Renamed in Honour of Juno Beach
During a special Veterans’ Week ceremony November 8th, 2019, Mayor Jim Watson was joined by Riley Brockington, River Ward Councillor, to rename the Airport Parkway pedestrian bridge the Juno Beach Memorial Bridge.
2019 marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the invasion of Normandy. Ottawa has an active service population of 23,000 members, and more than 53,000 veterans and their families live in Ottawa.
“I am very proud to have this prominent gateway to the city of Ottawa named in honour of our veterans. Bearing the name of this crucial point in time in Canadian military history is a fitting way to commemorate the service of those who fought so bravely to defend our values and our freedom. Through this, we continue to solidify our important relationship with the veteran and military community in Ottawa.”
